Vecchia Torre Salice Salentino 2016: Puglia, Italy
Grapes: Negroamaro/Malvasia Nera
Region/History Notes: Puglia, the heel of the boot of Italy, has a very warm, Mediterranean climate. Salice Salentino produces red wines with juicy fruit, thick tannins, and a smoky finish primarily from the Negroamaro grape. This blend by Vecchia Torre has about 15% Malvasia Nera added for more intense color and floral aromatics.
Tasting Notes: Fuller bodied without being overwhelming, juicy black fruit, cherries/blackberries, with a little leather, smoke, and spice to round it out. Are you a California Zinfandel lover? Try this one! LOVE with burgers, leaner steaks, beef tacos, ribs, or after dinner watching a movie with some dark chocolate.
