Mastroberardino Falanghina del Sannio 2018: Campania, Italy

Grapes: Falanghina

Region/History/Producer Notes: Mastroberardino is the key producer in all of Campania, Italy. They have been around since the 1800’s and are responsible for putting this region on the map in terms of global recognition. While known for their intense and powerful reds, they produce delightful white wines as well. Their vineyard sites are located in the volcanic soils of Campania (home to the infamous Mount Vesuvius).

Tasting Notes: Falanghina (pronounced fal-an-GEE-nah) is a bit harder to find here in the States than I would like since I love it so much.  I love the orange blossom, tangerine, apricot, and cantaloupe notes to the wine. But it isn’t over the top floral or fruity. The racy acidity and bright minerality to the finish make it refreshing and super food-friendly. Love this with caprese salad, grilled fish, shrimp scampi, or with grilled cheese sandwiches.
