Grapes: Chenin Blanc
Region/History Notes: South Africa is the New World’s new home to Chenin Blanc. In recent years producers have embraced the grape with gusto and have produced some world-class wine in their own unique style. South African producers are also leading the charge for sustainability- not just environmental, but social sustainability as well. Check out all these certifications: "Fair for Life," "B Corporation," "1% for the Planet," "Climate Neutral" and that's just the technical certifications!
Tasting Notes: Lemon verbena, orange blossom, honeydew, and lime zest are all immediately apparent on the nose and the palate. Loads of minerality with hints of the classic lanolin develop on the midpalate and linger on the finish. Floral notes continue to build as the wine opens up- it is a delightfully fresh and feminine wine. Perfect with all your spring picnic fare from cucumbers with herb goat cheese, to orzo salad, to salmon lox crostini. I often find it difficult to pair a wine with salads or fresh veggies, but this would be perfect!
