Grapes: Pinot Gris
Region/History/Producer Notes: Pinot Gris is the same grape as Pinot Grigio, just made in a different style. Pinot Gris is rich, honeyed, round in texture, and loaded with baking spices and brown pears. Pinot Grigio is the Italian name for the grape and could not be more opposite in style: tart green apple notes with loads of crisp light fruit. Pinot Gris is famous in Alsace, France but has become quite a staple variety in Oregon.
Tasting Notes: Honeyed on the nose with white flowers and cinnamon baked apples, creamy on the palate. It might convince you that there is some sweetness but this baby is bone-dry. The quintessential “turkey wine” so it is great with Thanksgiving type meals, but also delicious with curry, baked chicken thighs, roasted root veggies, and even winter salads.
