Region/History Notes: Rueda sits in the heart of Northern Spain in the area of Castilla y León. While most wine regions in Spain focus on red wines, Rueda focuses on white wines- specifically the Verdejo grape (pronounced ver-DAY-ho). Most of the acres are planted between 600-780m above sea level - above 300 is considered high elevation! The higher elevation and cooler nighttime temperatures can cultivate some very focused, lean, and elegant wines.
Tasting Notes: Garciarévalo is known for their old vine Verdejo- many of their vines are well over 120 years old! This is their Verdejo that is aged on the lees (lías in Spanish, the yeast that fermented the wine) to give a weightier texture and creaminess to the wine. Bright, fruit-forward and fun, this wine is a go-to for anytime you need that glass of wine and is a great crowd-pleaser with bright orange zest, apple, and pear notes. Pair with seafood scampi, even with a bit of spice to it will be beautiful.
