Grape: Pinot Noir
Region/History Notes: The Languedoc is in my opinion, one of the most underrated wine regions in all of France. From Pinot Noir like this one, to sparkling wines, to bold reds and lovely whites, even dessert wines, there is no type of wine they don’t make in Languedoc and they make them all well! While more rustic in style typically, the prices of these wines haven’t skyrocketed like the rest of France so they are the source of the best value wines of France. The Mistral winds keep the region from being too hot, the sandy soils keep the vineyards well drained, and some higher elevation areas provide the perfect terroir to make delightful wines.
Tasting Notes: If you avoid Pinot Noir because it’s too light for you, this is your wine! Firm tannins and rich fruit with a bold personality and long finish. Perfect with a Salmon BLT and sweet potato fries.
