4 Monos GR-10 Tinto 2018: Sierrade Gredos, Spain
Region/History Notes: This is one of the “New Spain” wines that makes me so excited about what’s coming out Spain these days. Gone are the days where every Spanish wine tastes alike, hello to new & innovative producers! 4 Monos is a co-op of 4 producers who are experimenting with lesser known regions in Spain.
Tasting Notes: Dried red fruits layered upon more dried red fruits! Cherries, cranberries, pomegranates, plums, and currants all rolled together in a pretty floral bow. While the wine has the fruit and floral notes you’d expect out of the Garnacha (Grenache), it is soft, light, lifted, all while still being structured with grippy tannins (thanks to the Cariñena aka Carignan and Syrah) unlike many of the over-extracted intense styles of Garanacha in central Spain. Pair with baked chicken thighs, roasted turkey, gnocchi sautéed in brown butter sauce, or mushroom toast.
